EDDINGTON — A motorcyclist crashed Thursday evening while speeding on a closed portion of the new Route 395 extension in Penobscot County, officials said.
At approximately 8 p.m., a deputy on patrol observed a lone motorcycle traveling westbound at high speed on the closed road between Brewer and Eddington, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
When the deputy activated emergency lights, the motorcycle accelerated.
The deputy turned off the lights as the vehicle reached an unfinished dirt section, but the motorcyclist continued.
The rider, a 36-year-old local man, lost control and fell when attempting to brake near a blocked portion of the road close to Route 9.
He was not wearing a helmet but sustained only minor cuts.
The man, who was out on bail and had a suspended license, was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Officials cited speed, alcohol and the road’s closed status as factors in the incident.
Authorities emphasized that the new extension remains closed to all traffic, including motorists, recreational vehicles and pedestrians.
The road is marked with barriers and signage indicating its closed status.
