BOSTON — A 33-year-old Dorchester man faces multiple charges after police say they recovered a loaded firearm and drugs during a traffic stop early Friday.

Erroll Gomes was arrested around 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 2, 2024, near 80 Walnut Ave. in Roxbury, according to Boston police.

Officers first noticed Gomes operating a moped without a helmet on Quincy Street.

They observed him run a red light at Warren Street before attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

Police say Gomes abandoned the moped behind an apartment building and fled on foot.

Officers chased him to Walnut Court, where he was apprehended after attempting to run through a fence.

During the arrest, police recovered two plastic bags containing suspected crack cocaine from Gomes’ mouth.

A subsequent search of the moped’s storage compartment revealed a loaded Bryco Arms Jennings Model 48 .380 Auto pistol.

Gomes faces charges including unlicensed firearm possession, cocaine possession with intent to distribute, and trespassing.

He was also cited for traffic violations.

He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
