RUTLAND — A two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon led to a Rutland Town man being charged with disorderly conduct.

At about 12:21 p.m. on Aug. 1, Vermont State Police responded to a collision on U.S. Route 7 South.

Sarah Benoit, 32, of Danby, was traveling south when Christopher Sweeney, 38, also headed south, swerved into the center turn lanes to pass her.

Sweeney’s vehicle struck Benoit’s as he re-entered the left lane, according to authorities.

Following the crash, both drivers stopped in a nearby Portland Glass parking lot.

There, Sweeney reportedly engaged in threatening behavior and used obscene language, including racial slurs directed at Benoit.

After collecting witness statements, troopers cited Sweeney for disorderly conduct.

He is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division, to answer to the charge.

State Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Trooper Charles Gardner at the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks.
