Montpelier man charged in bat assault

MONTPELIER — A local man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly attacking another person with a baseball bat in late June, authorities said.

Johnathan Ruiz, 36, was taken into custody following the June 30 incident that occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Stone Cutter’s Way, according to the Montpelier Police Department.

Witnesses told police that Ruiz struck the individual multiple times with a metal baseball bat, causing injuries to the upper body and legs.

Ruiz was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct on July 31 in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division.

The Montpelier Police Department declined to release further details about the altercation or the condition of the victim.
