FRYEBURG — Officers from the Fryeburg Police Department, in collaboration with the Conway Police Department, executed a joint search warrant on July 30, resulting in the arrest of 67-year-old William J. Ruest at his Fryeburg residence.

Ruest was taken into custody on a charge of Fugitive from Justice after investigators from Conway, New Hampshire, obtained search warrants and an arrest warrant for him.

Due to the location of Ruest’s residence being in Maine, Fryeburg Police obtained two additional search warrants to carry out the operation.

The arrest was part of a cross-border law enforcement effort to capture individuals attempting to evade justice by fleeing to other states.

Ruest is currently being held without bail and is awaiting an extradition hearing, which is scheduled to take place shortly.

Chief Aaron Mick of the Fryeburg Police Department praised the cooperation between the two departments, stating that such collaborative efforts are essential for the successful capture of fugitives.

The swift action taken by the Conway Police Department was instrumental in allowing Fryeburg Police to apprehend Ruest and ensure his return to New Hampshire to face charges.
