Speeding stop in Clifton leads to arrests on multiple warrants

1 min read

CLIFTON — A routine traffic stop by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office on July 29 led to the arrest of two individuals, one with multiple warrants and another with two outstanding warrants.

The incident began at approximately 7:35 a.m. when a deputy conducting a speed detail on Scotts Point Road noticed a vehicle speeding.

The deputy followed the car as it turned into a residence on the same road.

Upon stopping, the driver exited the vehicle and fled into the house while the passengers approached the deputy.

Identified as “Charlie” by one of the compliant passengers, the fleeing driver refused to surrender.

The deputy pursued the subject to the back of the house, where the man attempted to escape but tripped and confronted the deputy in a combative stance.

After refusing to comply, the subject was subdued with the use of a Taser and placed under arrest.

Following several false statements regarding his identity, the subject was confirmed to be 55-year-old Charles Michaud of Old Town.

Michaud had five active arrest warrants, including one for failing to report to jail for a scheduled sentence in March.

He also had two sets of active bail conditions and a revoked driver’s license due to habitual offenses.

Michaud now faces charges for his outstanding warrants, operating after habitual offender revocation, violating conditions of release, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.

Additionally, 47-year-old John Williams of Alton was arrested at the scene for two outstanding warrants.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office continues to address issues with defendants failing to report for sentencing and concealing contraband.
