Warwick police seek information on fatal hit-and-run

WARWICK — A fatal hit-and-run accident on Quaker Lane claimed the life of a Warwick man and left another with serious injuries late Sunday night, authorities said.

Warwick Police Department officers responded to a call at approximately 9:39 p.m. near 709 Quaker Lane, where they discovered 44-year-old Nicholas Cote deceased at the scene and 26-year-old Logan Barboza of West Warwick seriously injured.

According to a witness statement and initial investigation, Barboza was driving south when her vehicle struck Cote, who was on foot in the right southbound lane.

After Barboza exited her vehicle to check on Cote, they were both hit by a dark-colored SUV, believed to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Jeep ran over Cote, resulting in his death, and caused serious injuries to Barboza before fleeing the scene.

The Warwick Police Traffic Unit’s Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the incident and seeking information from the public.
