WEYMOUTH — Two men were arrested by the Weymouth Police Department on July 26 after allegedly stealing an iPhone from the front stairs of a local residence, an incident that echoes a similar theft from the same location two days prior.

According to police, a report was filed on July 24 regarding two male suspects who took packages from a residence shortly after delivery by FedEx.

The homeowner provided video evidence of the theft, which included footage of two vehicles, a black Mercedes sedan and a silver sedan, seen near the property before the incident.

On July 26, anticipating another iPhone delivery, the homeowner noticed the black Mercedes in the vicinity again and promptly alerted the authorities.

Police responded and questioned the driver of the Mercedes, who claimed to be a DoorDash delivery person.

He was later released.

Detectives conducted surveillance in the area and observed a Toyota Scion driving slowly near the delivery address.

The vehicle’s occupants, upon spotting an undercover detective, quickly drove away.

The detective recognized the passenger as one of the individuals from the homeowner’s video.

Upon stopping the vehicle, both suspects claimed to be DoorDash workers.

The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Luis Alevante De La Cruz, 25, of Dorchester, charged with larceny over $1,200, and Fernando Hernandez, 24, of Lynn, charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
