BOSTON — Two teenage boys were arrested and a loaded “ghost gun” was seized by police Sunday evening after a disturbance at a community basketball event in Roxbury.
The Boston Police Department reported that at about 8 p.m., officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force took a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male into custody on firearm charges amidst the crowds at Marcella Park.
The incident unfolded when officers, patrolling the tournament, noticed a fight erupt.
An individual involved in the altercation was seen passing a black satchel to another person.
As the officers intervened to break up the fight, a group was seen walking away towards Highland Street, while the person with the satchel engaged in conversation with several females.
One of the females was overheard mentioning that someone involved in the fight possessed a firearm.
When the suspect with the satchel tried to return it to the male engaged in the earlier fight, officers approached.
The suspect tried to leave but was stopped for a pat frisk, which revealed the presence of a firearm.
He was handcuffed, and the second suspect was located at 146 Marcella Street.
The recovered firearm was a “ghost gun” designed to be untraceable, equipped with a high-capacity magazine capable of holding thirty rounds, fifteen of which were in the magazine, and one in the chamber.
The teens were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
They are slated for arraignment at Boston Juvenile Court.
