NCH golf classic raises money for healthcare scholarships

NEWPORT –– Orleans Country Club hosted the annual scholarship classic fundraiser last Sunday. Players enjoyed the scramble format, with a special air cannon (sponsored by Lavallee Brensinger Architects), and a great meal with winning teams announced afterwards.

This charity event enables the continued awarding of scholarships to students pursuing an education in healthcare.

In the Men’s category, the NCU student team brought in the 1st Gross win (63), with Carson Limlaw, Evan Lantagne, Cash Mosher, and Aiden Briggs. Carson also had a closest to the pin on #13. The Mixed Gross (63) win was the foursome of Will Sisson, Dawn Kelley, Larry Sisson, and Nancy Sisson.

The first Net (56) for Men’s was Jay Peak’s team: Steve Wright, Jaime Stenger, Chris Clements, and Andy Stenger. First Net (56) for Mixed was Peck’s Painting: Jack Degre, Carol Choquette, Katie Peck, and Cory Peck.

For the Mixed teams, the club awarded the 2nd Gross (64) win to the team of Kevin Kincaid, Lisa Kincaid, Larry Fortin, and Conrad Fortin. The 2nd Net (58) team was Steve Hurd, Katie Goulet, Kelley Goulet, and Eric Mullins.

Other closest to the pin winners included Larry Fortin on #3, Jaime Stenger on #8, and Tom Frank on #10. Brian Hampton won the longest drive for Men and Jean Norris won the longest drive for Ladies.

Dan Bennett won the 50/50 and offered it back to the NCH Scholarship Fund. The Columbia Forest Products team won a round of golf at Newport Country Club in the early bird registration drawing.

The hospital extended a special thanks to lead sponsors HUB International, M&T Bank, NFP Property & Casualty, Comprehensive Pharmacy Services, Forvis Mazars, NCH Medical Staff, and Nuance a Microsoft Company.

Each June at local high school graduation time, North Country Hospital awards $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in various healthcare fields of study, including nursing, pharmacy, radiology, physical therapy, and lab technology to name a few.

Each year provided these students stay within the healthcare field and accomplish at least a 3.0 GPA their scholarship is renewed. This results in about $40,000 benefitting 40 students each year, all coming from the hospital foundation’s fundraising efforts.
