BOSTON — Officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a man Friday morning after spotting him with a loaded firearm near the Dorchester District Court.
Authorities said Roberto Valladares, 23, of Dorchester, was taken into custody around 10:38 a.m. at the corner of Washington St. and Tremlett St.
Members of the strike force were exiting the courthouse and preparing to participate in a court proceeding when they saw Valladares holding a gun and pointing it at individuals in front of him.
Valladares attempted to flee after officers commanded him to stop and drop the weapon.
He ran across Washington St. and into the yard of a private residence, where he eventually threw the firearm over a fence.
Despite his initial resistance, officers apprehended Valladares after a brief struggle.
The recovered weapon was a Glock 19 with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine.
Valladares faces charges including possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition and assault with a dangerous weapon.
He is expected to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court.
