New Haven police investigate fatal three-car crash

NEW HAVEN — A three-car collision in New Haven has left one person dead and several injured, authorities said.

The New Haven Police Department reported that officers responded at about 1:52 a.m. on July 27 to reports of a major accident at the intersection of Middletown Avenue and Barnes Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found a silver Hyundai and a silver Infiniti, both with significant front-end damage, and a grey Ford with minor damage.

The accident occurred on Middletown Avenue, just south of Barnes Avenue.

Multiple occupants from the involved vehicles were transported by American Medical Response to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries ranging from life-threatening to minor.

A passenger in the Hyundai sustained severe injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been notified and has taken custody of the body.

The department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is now leading the investigation into the cause of the accident.
