DORCHESTER — Boston Police Department officers recovered an unlicensed firearm following a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
At approximately 12:38 a.m., on July 28, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) were patrolling Selden St. when they spotted a Jeep Cherokee speeding and running a stop sign.
The officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Capen St. and Fuller St.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers noted the driver behaving erratically and sweating heavily.
The driver claimed he was escaping from a nearby altercation.
When asked to exit the vehicle, the driver complied but then fled on foot.
During the pursuit, a black 9mm ghost gun loaded with seven rounds was discovered under the driver’s seat.
The foot chase ended abruptly when the driver ran into a driveway where a party was underway, and a large hostile crowd confronted the officers, causing them to halt their pursuit.
Detectives from B-3 later processed the firearm and confirmed its status as a ghost gun with ammunition.
The vehicle operator was identified and cited for speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, and refusal to identify himself.
Further charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and unlawful possession of ammunition will be brought against the operator.
