Williamsburg police warn of scam calls impersonating county sheriff’s office

WILLIAMSBURG — Several residents have reported receiving scam phone calls today from individuals claiming to be from the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, according to Williamsburg Police and Fire Department officials.

The fraudulent callers have been telling residents they owe bond money, providing docket numbers or case numbers to lend credibility to their claims.

Authorities have emphasized that these calls are scams designed to trick individuals into disclosing personal and financial information.

Police advise the community not to give out any personal details, bank information, or credit/debit card numbers.

Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive such a call.
