Four injured in New Haven crash, police investigate potential drag racing

NEW HAVEN — A major motor vehicle accident in the early hours has left at least four people hospitalized as authorities investigate reports of drag racing in the area.

The New Haven Police Department responded to a reported MVA with injuries at the intersection of Middletown Ave and Barnes Ave at 2:00 a.m. on July 27.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene with hundreds of people around and requested multiple ambulances and backup units.

At least four patients have been transported by AMR to a local hospital following the crash, which occurred in the 320 block of Middletown Ave.

The New Haven Fire Department, which provided a photo of the scene on their Instagram account, confirmed a heavy police presence at both the crash site and the hospital.

The condition of the occupants remains unknown.

Middletown Ave is expected to remain closed at the intersections with Barnes Ave and Foxon Blvd as the investigation continues.

Authorities have yet to confirm the involvement of drag racing in the incident but are examining the reports as part of their ongoing inquiries.

Traffic diversions are in place, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.
