Child struck by projectile at Barnstable playground, police seek information

BARNSTABLE — A 7-year-old child was struck by a projectile Thursday evening at a playground in Barnstable, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

At about 7:50 p.m. on July 25, officers from the Barnstable Police Department were called to the area of Mary Dunn Road and Independence Drive after receiving reports of a child injured by an unknown projectile.

The child suffered an entry and exit wound on the shin and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.

The child has since been released and is expected to fully recover.

Barnstable Patrol Officers, alongside Detectives, conducted a thorough search of the vicinity for evidence.

Preliminary findings suggest the injury may have been caused by a BB gun.

The investigation is active, and law enforcement is requesting assistance from the public.
