WEBSTER — Webster police arrested a man accused of displaying a handgun during a fight that erupted near a children’s lemonade stand on Mechanic Street and Park Street earlier this month.
On July 1, around 6:46 p.m., officers were called to the scene following reports of a brawl involving six individuals.
As they approached, they were informed that the suspect had left the area in a black pickup truck.
Despite a search by Officers Suss, Donovan, Melhouse, Cedeno, and Caruso, the vehicle was not located.
The altercation reportedly began when a group of juveniles running a lemonade stand were confronted by another group, leading to a heated exchange that escalated when adults joined the fray.
It was during this confrontation that a man, now identified as David Carreras, 41, allegedly took out a handgun before dropping it.
Witnesses expressed fear for their lives, believing Carreras intended to use the firearm.
An in-depth investigation led by Officer Caruso and Detective Hurton resulted in the identification of Carreras, a resident of Mechanic Street.
A warrant for his arrest was issued on July 12, and Carreras was arraigned at Dudley District Court on July 22 on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault & battery.
Despite his violent criminal history, Carreras was released on $2,000 cash bail the following day.
Additional charges have been brought against several others involved in the incident.
