SPRINGFIELD — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a man found with a stolen, loaded large capacity firearm early Friday morning, according to Springfield Police.
At approximately 3:55 a.m. on July 26, Springfield Police Officers pulled over a vehicle on the 0-100 block of Tapley Street for crossing over the double yellow lines multiple times.
The vehicle, driven by 29-year-old Alexander Lopez of Chicopee, was also uninsured and had a revoked registration.
After informing Lopez that his vehicle would be towed, officers conducted a search and discovered an open container of High Noon alcohol and an illegal loaded firearm with a high-capacity magazine.
The gun, loaded with nine rounds and capable of firing 13, was reported stolen from Vermont.
Lopez refused to take a sobriety test and was subsequently arrested.
He faces multiple charges including possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID card, receiving stolen property under $1200, operating an uninsured and revoked vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and operating under the influence of liquor.
