SPRINGFIELD — Three Springfield Police Officers were injured and a high-capacity firearm was seized after a chase that ended with the arrest of a repeat offender on Thursday.

At around 3:45 p.m., officers from the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) were conducting a surveillance operation targeting 20-year-old Davey Quinones, who was suspected of possessing an illegal firearm with a 50-round drum.

According to police, when Quinones noticed the police presence on Lombard Street, he entered a vehicle and rammed several civilian cars in an attempt to flee.

He then led officers on a chase over the South End Bridge into Agawam, and onto River Road.

Near Danny Lane, Quinones changed direction back toward Springfield.

During the pursuit, officers saw Quinones throw a gun out of his vehicle’s window, which was later recovered by the authorities.

The chase concluded when Quinones crashed into a police cruiser near the 57 Rotary, after which he was taken into custody.

The three injured officers are expected to recover from their injuries.

River Road was temporarily closed while the scene was cleared and the damaged vehicles were towed away.

Quinones, who has a prior conviction for illegal firearm possession and was sentenced to two years of probation on Jan. 8, is now facing multiple charges.

These include carrying a firearm without a license for a second offense, carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm on a public way, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, five counts of assault & battery with a dangerous weapon, five counts of assault to kill, six counts of leaving the scene of a property damage crash, eight counts of malicious destruction of property more than $1200, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and 18 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
