NORTHFIELD — A vehicle struck the mailbox of the Northfield Police Chief early this morning, prompting an investigation that resulted in an arrest, officials said.
According to the Northfield Police Department, the chief’s mailbox was hit at 4:45 a.m. Authorities initially asked for the public’s assistance in gathering information regarding the incident.
Later in the day, police announced that the vehicle involved in the incident had been identified and was already under investigation by state police in Canterbury for unrelated matters.
The operator of the vehicle was apprehended by state police and has been charged in connection with the incident.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the damage to the police chief’s mailbox was not the result of malicious intent.
The name of the individual taken into custody has not been released pending further investigation.
