HINGHAM — In a coordinated effort between Hingham and Weymouth police, four men were apprehended for Organized Retail Theft after a surveillance operation on Friday at a local shopping center.

On July 19, Weymouth Police Detectives alerted Hingham counterparts to suspicious behavior by the suspects in an SUV at a Weymouth shopping center.

The vehicle was subsequently tracked to Derby Street Shops in Hingham, where the individuals were seen entering and exiting the Apple Store.

A traffic stop was initiated when detectives discovered that the SUV’s temporary license plate did not match the vehicle.

With assistance from a bilingual Weymouth officer, police found one suspect attempting to conceal a credit card beneath his seat.

The card belonged to an 80-year-old woman who had reported her wallet stolen while shopping in Weymouth.

Officers recovered the woman’s wallet, three iPhones purchased with her stolen card from the Hingham Apple Store, and additional items in the SUV bought with credit cards from Rhode Island and Connecticut stores.

The arrested individuals are Wilmer Vasquez Labato, 50, of Waltham; Miguel Angel Gomez Avina, 30, of Lexington; Jesse Marlo Sanchez Asmat, 32, of Lexington; and Misael Donato Rivera, 46, of Boston.

Charges include Organized Retail Crime, Receiving Stolen Property both over and under $1200, and Conspiracy.

Labato, the driver, faces additional charges related to vehicle documentation.

All suspects were processed at the Hingham Police station and released on bail.

Their arraignment is set for July 22 at Hingham District Court.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
