Cambridge burglary suspect arrested, due in court

CAMBRIDGE — Vermont State Police arrested a man early Friday morning in connection with a burglary at a local power equipment store after a thorough investigation led to his identification.

Authorities responded to Pro Power on Old Rt 15 after a report of a break-in on July 25.

The perpetrator had smashed the front door glass to gain entry and made off with multiple Husqvarna chainsaws and a safe containing an undisclosed sum of money.

Russell Smith, 44, of Richford, was apprehended at his home on July 26 and is facing charges related to the burglary.

Smith was given a flash citation to appear at the Lamoille County Superior Court on July 31 at 12:30 p.m.

The successful identification and arrest of Smith were the result of investigative work by State Police.

Following his arrest, Smith was transferred to the custody of Probation and Parole.

Trooper Cote, who is handling the case, is urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
