BOSTON — Boston police officers assigned to District D-4 seized 20 mopeds on Thursday while conducting a targeted enforcement operation in the Back Bay and South End neighborhoods aimed at curbing illegal moped and motorcycle activity.

The operation, which took place on July 25, focused on the 500 Block of Boylston Street, Huntington Avenue/Gainsborough Street, and the Ink Block Neighborhood.

This traffic enforcement initiative was in response to community complaints about the reckless operation of mopeds and motorcycles in commercially populated areas.

Officers were specifically targeting off-highway vehicles being used by unlicensed operators or those with vehicles that were unregistered or uninsured.

During the crackdown, police towed 20 mopeds for various motor vehicle law and parking violations and are seeking sixteen criminal complaints against the operators.

The Boston Police Department is emphasizing the importance of proper vehicle licensing, registration, and insurance, particularly for off-highway vehicles, which must be registered with a visible number plate and expiration decal.

The department is committed to ongoing enforcement efforts to ensure compliance with traffic laws and to address the concerns of the community.
