Middlebury man cited for 334 harassing calls to police dispatchers

NEW HAVEN — A 41-year-old Middlebury man has been accused of making hundreds of harassing phone calls to police dispatchers over the course of two months.

Vermont State Police, joined by the Middlebury Police Department, issued a citation for Cormick M.

Cantwell to appear in Addison County Superior Court Criminal Division on July 29 at 12:30 p.m. Cantwell is facing charges of disturbing the peace by use of a telephone.

Authorities say from May 13 through July 23, Cantwell repeatedly called and harassed dispatchers serving both State and local police departments, totaling 334 calls.

The disruptive behavior led to the citation which was served to Cantwell on July 25 at his residence on Ethan Allen Highway.

The persistent calls have been a significant disturbance for dispatchers who are tasked with handling emergency and non-emergency calls for the community.

The citation marks the culmination of an investigation into the calls, which has now been referred to the court for further proceedings.
