Somerville sees spate of assaults, break-ins over the week

SOMERVILLE — Somerville Police have reported a series of assaults and property crimes that occurred throughout the city between July 18 and July 23.

The first incident occurred on July 18 at around 8:09 p.m. when officers were called to a business on McGrath Highway after a report of a larceny.

A male suspect allegedly stole a prepaid meal and shoved an employee who attempted to intervene.

Two days later, on July 20 at about 5:30 p.m., police responded to Middlesex Avenue following an assault related to a traffic dispute.

The victim reported that a female party spat on him during the altercation.

Another assault was reported on July 19 at approximately 1:10 p.m. outside the library on 79 Highland Ave.

The victim was attacked by a group of juveniles and suffered minor injuries.

In addition to the assaults, Somerville Police investigated two breaking and entering incidents.

On July 19, just before 10:47 p.m., a resident on Moreland Street reported a past break-in where the perpetrator entered through the back door, but nothing was taken.

A few days later, on July 23 at around 9:42 a.m., a homeowner on Lexington Avenue reported a stolen bicycle from their garage following a break-in.

The police also noted an increase in property crimes during the same period, including six car break-ins, six incidents of motor vehicle vandalism, five bike thefts, three cases of vandalism, one motor vehicle theft, and three package thefts.

Authorities are investigating all incidents and are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigations.
