Monroe toddler injured in shooting, police investigate

MONROE — A 2-year-old boy was injured in a shooting at his home on Wheeler Road late Tuesday evening, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Officers and emergency medical services responded to the scene near the intersection of RT 110 and Osborn Lane at 9:21 p.m. after receiving a report of a medical emergency.

The child had gunshot wounds to his hand and foot and was initially taken to Bridgeport Hospital.

He was later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for surgery.

Authorities stated the injuries were not life-threatening.

The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred at the child’s residence.

The child’s mother, attempting to take him to a local hospital, called 911 en route.

Monroe Police and detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No further details were immediately available as the investigation remains active.
