ESSEX — An Essex Police Department officer was assaulted early Monday morning after responding to reports of suspicious activity, according to a press release from Chief Ron Hoague.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at Susan’s Place on 27 Susie Wilson Rd, where officers were dispatched due to a possible drug sale involving individuals not residing at the complex.
Upon arrival, three suspects—two males and one female—were contacted by the responding officers.
While attempting to detain a male and a female suspect in the building’s main lobby for further investigation and issuing a trespass notice, both individuals resisted and the female suspect assaulted the officer by kicking him multiple times in the legs and groin.
As the officer tried to prevent the male suspect from fleeing in a vehicle, he was pinned between the moving car and a parked vehicle, suffering minor arm injuries.
The female suspect escaped on foot, and the third male subject left the scene undetained.
Investigations led to the identification of all three suspects, though they remain at large.
Mark Edward Sutton Jr., 24, the driver, is wanted for parole violation and new charges including aggravated assault of a protected professional and leaving the scene of an accident.
Jasmine M. Brown, 21, is wanted for failure to appear on burglary and cocaine possession charges, along with new charges of assault of a protected professional and other offenses.
William F. Stearns, 38, is sought for failure to appear on a felony retail theft charge and is currently on probation.
The Essex Police Department has urged anyone with information to contact them at 802-878-8331 and advised the public to report sightings to local law enforcement.
