DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth Police have arrested two women on charges of shoplifting after a reported theft at a local Kohl’s store, which appears to be part of a larger crime wave spanning Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

On Friday, July 19, at about 1 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Kohl’s at 81 Faunce Corner Road following a shoplifting report.

Witnesses described two females concealing merchandise and leaving the premises in a dark-colored vehicle.

Police located and stopped the suspects’ car shortly thereafter.

The suspects, identified as Kaytlyn Lynch, 20, and Brooklyn Burns, 21, both from Dorchester, admitted to the theft at Kohl’s and were found with additional stolen goods from other retailers.

The investigation uncovered over $4,000 worth of stolen items from Kohl’s, Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, and Ulta Beauty, all of which were recovered and returned to the respective stores.

Lynch and Burns face two counts each of shoplifting over $250 by concealing merchandise and one count each of receiving stolen property.

Authorities believe the women are part of a larger organized retail crime group implicated in a spate of thefts across the region.
