LYNN — Authorities have arrested 18-year-old Adrian Pena in connection with the June 15 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Kai Burgos in the Market Basket parking lot at 10 Federal Street.

Pena, also from Lynn, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Dominican Republic on July 16.

The arrest followed an extensive manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

He will first face a fugitive from justice charge in Miami before further proceedings.

The collaborative effort included the Lynn Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker, and Dominican Republic officials.

District Attorney Tucker expressed his commitment to delivering justice for Burgos’ family, praising the relentless efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved.

The incident left Burgos critically wounded inside a crashed car that had ended up in a ravine.

He was transported to Salem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
