Man arrested for slashing neck of helper at Nashua shelter

NASHUA — A 31-year-old homeless man was arrested at a local shelter after allegedly slashing the neck of a 65-year-old man known in the community for assisting the homeless, police said.

The incident occurred late Wednesday evening when Jason Del Vicario reportedly used a box cutter in the attack that left the older man with serious injuries.

The victim, whose name has not been released by authorities, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Del Vicario is being held on preventative detention as the investigation continues.

Police have not yet provided a motive for the attack.

Witnesses and other residents of the shelter were left shaken by the incident, with many expressing shock and concern over the safety of those working to support the homeless population.
