Biddeford residents warned of police impersonation phone scam

1 min read

BIDDEFORD — Several local residents have reported receiving fraudulent phone calls from an individual impersonating a police officer, claiming to represent the Biddeford Police Department, authorities said Wednesday.

The scammer, identifying himself as Sgt.

Phil Greenwood, falsely informs residents that they have an outstanding warrant for their arrest due to a missed court appearance or failure to appear for jury duty.

To add credibility to his claims, the caller provides a phony badge number.

The calls originate from the phone number 207-810-1316, which is not associated with any member of the Biddeford Police Department.

Officials have confirmed that these calls are a scam and that residents should not fear arrest if they receive such a call.

The Biddeford Police Department has issued a reminder that law enforcement officials do not contact individuals by phone to notify them of warrants for their arrest.

They also urge residents not to provide personal information or make payments over the phone in response to such calls.

Anyone with concerns about the legitimacy of a call claiming to be from the police, or those who have received similar scam calls, are encouraged to contact the Biddeford Police Department’s non-emergency line at 207-282-5127 to verify the information and report the incident.

The department is actively investigating these reports and is seeking to inform the community to prevent further victims of this scam.
