Moose collision causes serious head-on accident in Shirley, eight injured

SHIRLEY — A two-vehicle collision involving a moose resulted in eight people injured on Friday night on Greenville Rd.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the accident.

A southbound Jeep Cherokee struck a moose, causing the driver to lose control and veer into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a northbound Chevy Suburban.

Both vehicles were carrying a total of four adults and four children, with the children’s ages ranging from 5 to 9.

All injured parties were transported to C.A. Dean hospital for treatment.

A 5-year-old child, among the injured, was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center and is reported to be in serious but stable condition.

Authorities from the Sheriff’s Office were supported at the scene by Greenville’s Police and Fire Departments, as well as Northern Light C.A. Dean ambulance services.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
