MALDEN — Malden Police Department issued a public service announcement today, alerting local students of a prevalent scam targeting them under the guise of job opportunities allegedly related to the city’s school system.

According to reports, numerous students have received deceptive emails appearing to come from school staff, offering a fake job.

The scammers initiate contact with students and request personal and banking information to allegedly deposit a check.

Students who hesitate or refuse to comply have received threatening text messages, including images of firearms and explicit threats of violence.

Investigators have assessed that the threats are not credible but rather intimidation tactics.

Authorities are urging students and community members to protect their personal information and to verify the legitimacy of any unsolicited communication before responding.
