TAUNTON — Two individuals were injured in a head-on collision late Wednesday night, prompting a response from the Taunton Police Department, according to Police Chief Edward J. Walsh.
The crash occurred on July 17 at about 9:25 p.m. at the intersection of Burt Street and Winthrop Street.
Responding officers and emergency personnel found a Honda Accord and a Toyota Camry with significant front-end damage.
Both drivers had already exited their vehicles when first responders arrived.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the Honda Accord, driven by a 38-year-old Providence man, swerved into the oncoming traffic lane, causing the collision with the Toyota Camry.
Authorities noted an odor of alcohol from the Honda Accord’s driver, but due to his injuries, Field Sobriety Tests were not conducted at the scene.
Both drivers were transported to a Rhode Island hospital for treatment of their injuries by Brewster Ambulances.
The Taunton Fire Department also assisted at the accident scene, which was cleared by 12:32 a.m.
The Honda Accord’s driver is facing charges including Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and a Marked Lanes Violation.
He will be summoned to court at a later date.
The Taunton Police Department and the Taunton Police Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate the crash.
