Search for missing Enosburgh woman continues; police suspect foul play

ENOSBURGH — Search efforts for 82-year-old Roberta Martin persisted overnight and are ongoing as of Thursday afternoon, following her suspicious disappearance from her home on Butternut Hollow Road.

The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team is actively processing the scene at Ms. Martin’s residence, while detectives from the Major Crime Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigations conduct interviews and gather evidence.

Authorities have stated that the nature of Ms. Martin’s disappearance is suspicious, but have not released specific details to protect the integrity of the investigation.

State police are seeking assistance from the public and wish to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Sand Hill Road and Butternut Hollow Road between 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, and 12 noon Wednesday, July 17.

Several tips have been received about individuals walking or jogging in the area during that time, and detectives are looking to identify and interview these potential witnesses.

Ms. Martin is described as being in good health both physically and mentally, which adds to the concern for her safety.

The search involves multiple agencies and resources, including the Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team, K-9 Unit, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program, and uniformed troopers from the Field Force Division.

Support is also being provided by the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife, New England K9 Search and Rescue, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, and local fire and rescue departments.

The Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office is actively involved in the investigation.
