BOSTON — Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 20-year-old Dorchester man on firearm charges following a traffic stop on Wednesday, July 17.

At approximately 12:09 p.m., officers on patrol near Talbot Avenue and Welles Avenue spotted a vehicle speeding and initiated a pursuit.

After catching up to the vehicle, they activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and St. Marks Road.

Upon making contact with the vehicle’s occupants, officers learned that the driver was operating with a suspended learner’s permit.

Further investigation revealed the front passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and had an open bottle of alcohol at his feet.

As police requested the occupants to exit the vehicle, the front passenger, identified as Deandrew Pinto, behaved suspiciously by pinning his arms to his waist and turning away from the officers.

Pinto was handcuffed, and a search revealed a Glock 48 with a round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine on his person.

Pinto now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Person Under 21 Possession of Liquor, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, and Seatbelt Violation.

He is scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
