WEBSTER — Police officers responding to a late-night call about a fight at a local apartment building were assaulted as they attempted to intervene, resulting in two arrests.

On Saturday, June 30, at around 11:39 p.m., Webster Police Department officers, assisted by a Massachusetts State Trooper, arrived at 25 Granite St. following reports of a disturbance.

The officers, including Sergeant Larochelle, Sergeant Mroczek, and Officer Murray, were informed of an individual damaging the screen door and heard signs of an active altercation on the third floor.

Despite multiple attempts to announce their presence and gain entry, the officers received no response.

Concerned for the safety of potential victims, the officers decided to enter the apartment.

Upon entry, they encountered Sharif Zakhary, 34, and Ashley Zakhary, 31, who were uncooperative and obstructive.

During the incident, Ms. Zakhary struck Sergeant Larochelle on the arm.

Both officers struggled to restrain her as she continued to resist.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zakhary attempted to interfere with the officers’ efforts and resisted arrest.

Ultimately, the officers subdued and arrested both individuals.

Sharif Zakhary was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and interfering with a police officer.

Ashley Zakhary faces charges of disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer, interfering with a police officer, and disturbing the peace.

The couple was released on $40 personal recognizance and is scheduled for arraignment at Dudley District Court on Monday, July 1.

Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
