Chatham road rage incident leads to arrest, handgun recovery

CHATHAM — A road rage altercation on Route 28 led to the arrest of a man and the recovery of a loaded handgun Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The Chatham Police Department received a call at 4:02 p.m. from a motorist claiming he and his family were threatened by a man with a firearm during the incident in West Chatham.

The caller provided descriptions of both the suspect and his vehicle.

Police located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle shortly after the call.

Tracy E. Douse, 42, from St. Johnsbury, Vermont was arrested during the traffic stop.

Officers recovered a loaded Glock 19 handgun from Douse’s vehicle.

Douse faces multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device, illegal possession of ammunition, and disorderly conduct.

He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Orleans District Court.
