WORCESTER — Members of the Worcester Police Department’s Gang Unit arrested a 14-year-old boy on firearm charges early Tuesday morning after executing a search warrant at a Townsend Street apartment.
The raid, which took place around 6 a.m., was part of an ongoing investigation into firearms.
Upon entering the residence, officers presented the warrant to the two occupants, a juvenile and an adult male, and explained the contents to them.
The officers also made sure to read the Miranda rights to the minor before proceeding with the search.
During the search of the juvenile’s bedroom, police found a loaded gun inside an unsecured bag, along with a spent shell casing.
The Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene to collect the firearm for evidence.
The teenager was taken into custody and faces charges for possession of a firearm without a Firearms Identification Card (FID), possession of ammunition without an FID, and improper storage of a firearm.
Meanwhile, the adult male present at the apartment during the search was not arrested.
The Worcester Police Department has not released any further details about the investigation at this time.
