MANCHESTER — Police apprehended Kyle Barka, 33, following a standoff at his Manchester Street residence Monday morning after he assaulted a police K9 and resisted arrest.

Responding to a wanted check at 306 Manchester St. at about 8:35 a.m., officers from the Manchester Police Department’s Patrol Division discovered Barka had an outstanding arrest warrant.

When they attempted to approach him, Barka fled into his apartment, barricading himself inside.

The situation escalated when the MPD K9 Unit, along with the SWAT Team and the SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team, arrived to assist.

Despite several hours of negotiation, Barka refused to surrender.

During the standoff, he attacked an MPD K9 with a chair as the dog attempted to subdue him.

Barka later tried to escape through a first-floor window around noon but was apprehended with the help of the K9 unit.

He sustained injuries during the arrest for failing to comply with the police dog and is currently receiving treatment.

Authorities confirmed that Barka had an active warrant for Felony Second Degree Assault linked to a recent hit-and-run accident, issued by NHSP Troop B.

The Manchester Police Department has also charged him with Felony Willful Interference with Police Dogs and two counts of Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest.

Following his booking on local charges, Barka will be transferred to the New Hampshire State Police to address the out-of-jurisdiction charges.

He is set to be arraigned at Manchester District Court on the local charges at a later date.
