FAIR HAVEN — A local man was arrested on July 16 after an investigation into the use of counterfeit currency, the Fair Haven Police Department reported.

Joshua B. Preseau, 33, was charged with uttering a forged instrument following the incident, which dates back to March 26.

Police were called to the Jiffy Mart on that day for a report of an attempt to pass a counterfeit $100 bill.

When the clerk identified the bill as counterfeit, Preseau allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

The Fair Haven Police, led by Chief William Humphries and Constable Sean Galvin, conducted an investigation that eventually identified Preseau as the suspect.

During an interview with the authorities, Preseau admitted to his involvement in the incident.

Preseau has been released and is scheduled to appear in Rutland District court at a later date to face charges.

The investigation into the counterfeit currency is ongoing.
