BRISTOL — Two individuals face charges in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child following an investigation by Bristol police.

Alyjah Almodovar, 21, was arrested July 8 for risk of injury to a child and intentional cruelty to persons.

She is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Luis Dejesus, 24, was arrested July 12 on charges including first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, risk of injury to a child, intentional cruelty to persons, and false statement.

He is being held on a $1,000,000 bond.

The arrests stem from an incident on Jan. 9 when Bristol police responded to a call about an unresponsive child who had reportedly fallen down stairs.

Officers performed CPR and noticed unusual injuries on the child, who was later pronounced dead at Bristol Hospital.

Further investigation revealed the child had not fallen but was a victim of ongoing physical abuse, police said.

At the time of his arrest, Dejesus was already in custody on unrelated charges involving illegal firearms and narcotics possession, according to authorities.
