BOSTON — In an effort to enforce vehicle restrictions in pedestrian zones, officers from the Boston Police Department’s District A-1 seized nine mopeds during a crackdown in the Downtown Crossing area on Monday.

At about 5:17 p.m. on July 15, officers conducted targeted moped and motorcycle enforcement on foot near the intersection of Franklin Street and Washington Street, a designated pedestrian area where vehicles are not permitted to travel.

The officers issued multiple verbal warnings, Massachusetts Uniform Citations, and a summons to one operator for various motor vehicle law infractions.

The nine mopeds were seized due to violations of motor vehicle laws.

The Boston Police Department is using this operation to remind the public that vehicles are strictly banned in the Downtown Crossing pedestrian zone.

The restriction is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors.

Pedestrians are also encouraged to enjoy other vehicle-free areas in downtown Boston, including the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, Quincy Market, and Faneuil Hall.
