1 min read

AUBURN — A two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning on Washington Street left a 77-year-old woman with serious injuries and led to a temporary road closure.

The crash occurred at 5:56 a.m. when Carole Bennett, 77, of Lewiston, attempted to cross Washington Street in her 2014 Ford Escape.

Bennett’s vehicle collided with a 2021 Hyundai Elantra driven by Hedulene Domingos, 25, also of Lewiston.

The impact sent Bennett’s vehicle across the grass median and into the northbound lanes.

Emergency responders treated Bennett at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities closed the northbound lanes of Washington Street while first responders cleared the area and reconstructed the crash.

Domingos, who was operating with a learner’s permit and was not accompanied by a licensed driver, did not suffer serious injuries.

The Auburn Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Maine State Police.

Officials expect to file charges in connection with the crash.
