West Haven police arrest felon with stolen gun, drugs during traffic stop

WEST HAVEN — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a convicted felon after West Haven Police officers discovered a stolen pistol and drugs in the suspect’s vehicle on July 14.

Around 7:20 p.m., an officer pulled over a black BMW for a motor vehicle violation on Front Avenue.

During the investigation, a backup officer noticed the driver, identified as Javon James, attempting to hide a pistol under the seat.

James, who as a convicted felon is prohibited from possessing firearms, was swiftly apprehended by the officers.

Further inspection revealed that the firearm had been stolen from Milford, CT.

The West Haven Police Department has charged James with criminal possession of a firearm, stealing a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and various motor vehicle and drug-related offenses.

The arrest occurred without further incident.
