Troopers make multiple arrests for DUI, drug offenses, and obstructing police in Rhode Island

LINCOLN WOODS — A series of arrests have been made by the State Police, including charges for driving under the influence, drug offenses, and obstructing police officers, following various incidents in Rhode Island.

At 12:52 p.m., Troopers apprehended Joao Goncalves, 67, of North Providence, on charges of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a chemical test after being stopped on Paul Street in Lincoln.

Goncalves was processed at the Lincoln Barracks, arraigned, and released to a responsible adult.

Later in the evening, at 10:45 p.m., Vladimil A.

Sanchez Jr., 23, also of North Providence, was detained for driving after suspension of his license.

His arrest followed a vehicle stop on Anthony Avenue in Providence.

Sanchez was held at the Lincoln Woods Barracks pending arraignment as a probation violator.

Minutes later at 10:56 p.m., Alfredo Sanchez, 58, of Woonsocket, was arrested on multiple drug-related charges, including the possession and intent to deliver cocaine and fentanyl, as well as for possessing a counterfeit bill.

In a separate incident at the same time, Shanny M.

Martinez, 37, of Providence, was charged with obstructing a police officer.

Both arrests occurred on Route 146 in North Providence, with the subjects held for arraignment.

Early the next morning, at 12:22 a.m., Joao S.

Periera, 26, of Pawtucket, was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear at a pre-trial conference on a charge of driving after suspension.

The arrest followed a stop on Merrick Street in Pawtucket, with Periera later transferred to the Adult Correctional Institution.

At 2:06 a.m., Nicholas J.

Lage, 39, of Warwick, was arrested for his second offense of driving under the influence, obstructing a police officer, and refusal to submit to a chemical test after a motor vehicle crash on Route 10 in Cranston.

Lage was processed and released with a Third Division District Court summons.
