Norwalk first responders save drowning individual in Norwalk River

NORWALK — At 10:06 a.m. today, Norwalk Police, Fire, and Norwalk Hospital EMS responded to an emergency behind 146 East Avenue where an individual was reported drowning in the Norwalk River.

Officer James Kassimis of the Norwalk Police Department, together with a member of the Norwalk Fire Department, bravely entered the water and swam towards the victim.

An employee from a local rowing club assisted by throwing the person a life jacket, which helped keep them afloat until they were reached by the rescuers.

The timely intervention of the first responders ensured that the individual was safely brought to shore.

Following the rescue, the person was immediately transported to Norwalk Hospital and is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Today’s incident highlights the exceptional collaboration and quick action of Norwalk’s first responders, whose efforts were crucial in preventing a potential tragedy in the community.
