Man arrested for assault, hate crimes in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO — A California man was arrested in Brattleboro on charges of larceny from a person, simple assault, and hate-motivated disorderly conduct after a series of aggressive incidents, the Brattleboro Police Department reported.

Brandon Bane, 40, from Stockton, California, was taken into custody following a reported assault near Park Place on July 13 at approximately 5:57 p.m.

Officers dispatched to the scene identified Bane as the suspect after he allegedly threatened to kill the victim and simulated having a knife.

No injuries were reported during the altercation.

Further investigation revealed that the previous day, Bane had confronted a juvenile downtown, using racial slurs and screaming “white power.”

Bane was located and arrested, then lodged at the Brattleboro Police Department in lieu of $200 bail.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Windham County Superior Court today on the aforementioned charges.
