Maine man charged with aggravated assault after midnight attack

ROCKLAND — Police arrested a 60-year-old South Thomaston man early Saturday morning following a brutal assault that left another individual with serious facial injuries.

According to the Rockland Maine Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after midnight on July 14 to a report of an assault in progress.

Witnesses described a harrowing scene, with the victim on their hands and knees being repeatedly kicked in the face.

When law enforcement arrived, they found the victim bleeding in the street, near the site of the attack.

Emergency medical services rushed the injured party to Pen Bay Medical Center, where they are being treated for significant injuries sustained to their face.

Robert Barter was detained at the scene by responding officers.

He has since been charged with Criminal Threatening and felony Aggravated Assault.

A search of Barter revealed a small amount of white powder, which may lead to additional charges depending on the results of further testing.

The Rockland Police are continuing their investigation and have called for anyone with information to come forward.
