Lewiston police investigate fatal shooting of teen, Maine State Police assist

LEWISTON — The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit has joined the Lewiston Police Department in investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy following a shooting incident on July 14.

At around 10:30 p.m., Lewiston police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at 77 Rideout Avenue.

Officers discovered Sahal Murdi, a local teen, dead in the roadway.

Murdi’s body has been sent to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to ascertain the cause and manner of his death.

Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles, a silver Mercedes and a black Dodge Challenger with a temporary Maine registration, speeding away from the scene.

Police have identified and are interviewing the driver of the Mercedes, who is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the black Dodge Challenger or any other details relevant to the case to come forward.

The investigation is active and ongoing, under the guidance of both the Lewiston Police Department and the Maine State Police.

The Department of Public Safety is also involved in the case, working to gather evidence and statements to assist in the resolution of this crime.
